5 Bath Essentials for Detoxing and Holistic Healing
This post has 5 Bath Essentials for Detoxing and Holistic Healing. Plus, I’ve included a recipe and instructions at the end of this post for an amazing remineralizing and detoxifying soak.
Every day our bodies are exposed to and absorb a host of bacteria, toxins, and heavy metals. We also lose a lot of essential minerals when we sweat, urinate, work out, and digest our food on a daily basis.
Did you know a hot bath can remove heavy metals and toxins? A mineral detox bath is a great way to absorb Magnesium, Sodium Bicarbonate, and more transdermally! Here are 5 things that you can add to your baths to reap the benefits of transdermal absorption, and detox all of those toxins at the same time!
5 Bath Essentials for Detoxing
There are a plethora of benefits to taking a detox bath. It boosts your immune system, it decreases allergic reactions, it reduces stress and anxiety, it reduces toxic burdens on your organs, and it stimulates your lymph system. A hot bath is a great reward after a long and stressful day, and it has so many benefits. It can even reduce the severity and duration of a cold. Here are some of the products you can add to your bath water for a mineral and immune boost:
Magnesium Bath Flakes
Magnesium Bath Flakes are a great way to boost your magnesium intake. I have a whole post about the importance and benefits of magnesium and how transdermal magnesium supplementation works. Bath flakes work much better than Epsom Salts when it comes to transdermal supplementation. The main differences between magnesium bath flakes and Epsom salts relate to bioavailability and concentration. If you’ve tried both, you’ve likely experienced the difference. These flakes work so well to relieve muscle soreness and tension as well.
Bentonite Clay
Volcanically derived bentonite has a long history of therapeutic uses. Also known as Indian Healing Clay, this powder is used for facials, bug bites, detox soaps, and more. Adding this clay to your bathwater is a great way to rid your body of heavy metals and toxins. Bentonite Clay has a negative charge, so it acts like a magnet to positively charged heavy metals in our bodies.
In addition to being able to draw out toxins, there are also nutrients naturally found in bentonite clay which can provide benefits for your skin. These include calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron, and potassium. While these nutrients won’t exactly help you detoxify, they can help soothe your skin, speed up wound healing, and make your skin look and feel better.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Adding apple cider vinegar to your bath water helps to soothe inflammation caused by irritants, and restores the natural pH balance of the skin. It also promotes wound healing and is a strong antibacterial making it the perfect addition to your detox bath. Apple cider vinegar can also help keep UTIs and Bacterial Vaginosis at bay.
Baking Soda
Adding Baking Soda to your bath can help to neutralize toxins and harmful chemicals lurking inside the body. In addition to its detoxing benefits, Baking Soda also Improves circulation, replenishes the elasticity of the skin, and soothes irritated skin. It can also relieve pain from uncomfortable conditions like hemorrhoids and yeast infections.
Ground Ginger
This secret ingredient is small but mighty. Adding just a small amount of ground ginger to your bathwater increases circulation, aiding in the elimination of toxins. Ground Ginger will make you SWEAT so those toxins will be eliminated through your pores with ease.
If you plan on adding ginger to your bath, please be aware that you will continue to sweat even after you get out of the bath (sweating is a GOOD thing for toxin removal). So rinsing off with a quick shower an hour or two after your bath is a good idea.
Bath Essentials Detoxifying Bath Recipe
Now that you have some good insights into what these bath essentials do to heal and detoxify, here is how to put them to use. Feel free to add or subtract any ingredient from this recipe and please do some more research into these ingredients if you are pregnant or have a heart condition or high blood pressure.
You’ll Need:
1 Cup Magnesium Flakes
1 Cup Baking Soda
1 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1-2 Tablespoons Bentonite Clay
1-2 Teaspoons Ground Ginger
Directions:
In order for a detox bath to do its job properly, you will need to have the water as hot as you can stand it. You don’t want to be uncomfortable, but a little hotter than you would normally like it is ideal. Think sauna vibes. You want to sweat.
Soak for a MINIMUM of 20 minutes. The longer the better. Try to stay in there until the water is effectively cooled down and you aren’t sweating as much.
While baths are notoriously relaxing and comfortable, a detox bath can be the opposite for some people. You will experience an elevated heart rate, sweating, and a temporary elevated temperature increase. This is normal, and why detox baths are so beneficial. Consult with your doctor before taking one of these powerful baths if you have any concerns.

Funny thing is that I have most of the items on this list in my house, and never knew that I could bathe with them. But I’m in need of a spa bath as we speak, so I will definitely be trying some of these out. Thanks for sharing!
Never heard about adding baking soda in your bath before so thanks for that and your recipe. I can’t wait to use it as soon as I buy the one ingredient I need: bentonite clay.
Let the detoxification start!
I do lots of magnesium baths with baking soda, but never knew about the other ingredients.I’m excited about trying this recipe because I’ve been needing to detox. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
I’m interested in the magnesium flakes! I’ve heard magnesium is good for a lot of things but never heard of using it in the bath!
Magnesium Flakes are a game-changer! Traditional Epsom Salts are the salt form of magnesium but don’t work quite as well as the flakes 😊
